Sincere apologies to anyone whose Friendspage got gorked by yesterday's chicken posting. It hadn't been YouTubed (still hasn't), one local station had no video, and a second had a hideously long ad at the start of its coverage. That left the WIVB option, which, I later found out, started by itself each time, no doubt annoying readers who didn't know where that clucking was coming from.
It's since been LJ-cut, for those of you who might still have me on a friends filter.
Right, yes, I now know that 2,000 of the chickens were, or had to be, killed. Chickens who were on their way to a processing plant anyway. And that detail came from the (videoless) local fishwrap story about it this morning, which duly pointed out this avian tragedy, but under the headline "Two Thousand Chickens Cross Final Road."
Sorry. Prolly should've lj-cut that horrific pun, too.

The Win '98 experiment of '08 is over. No combination of software, hardware and wiring would get my cable modem or router to talk to that old beast of a computer. It's back in the Niagara River, anchoring a boat where it belongs.
----
I also meant to post at 08:08 on 08/08/08, but sleep and weird dreams had other plans. I have not been disappointed, though, by those of you geeky enough to comment on it yourselves.
The nice thing about such dates is it avoids any conflict with the Brits over whether we format the date as mm/dd or dd/mm. That drove me bonkers the one summer I interned at a solicitors firm. It's probably also why the idiots picked 7/7 for their evil several years back. (My Not-an-iPod downloaded a This American Life rerun this past week, featuring a story about a 7/7 7urvivor, whose accounts of the tragedy have been seriously called into question by a bunch of conspiracy theorists who say the whole London disaster that day was not a Muslim extremist plot but a setup job by London Transport and MI-5 of a "power surge" on the Tube that morning. How to explain the near-simultaneous "bombing" of an aboveground London bus? Actors and special effects. Sigh. Heavy, heavy sigh.)

Wow. I can only assume that these conspiracy theorists have never tried to use the London Tube system at, ooh, 6pm on a Friday night. Or at 8am on a Monday morning. That'd certainly kill any thoughts of a conspiracy by proving just how shite London Transport can be...
(Incidentally, if I'm remembering correctly, the bombings were initially reported as 'power surges' by various news services that day. The reports were only changed to 'bombing' after pictures of a bus missing it's roof surfaced.)

Date: 2008-08-09 05:00 pm (UTC)It's not nice to make the Headbanger spit coffee out laughing. You could've at least given me the standard warning from Kimmy when she is about to say something funny: Don't Drink!!
I miss my computer. Sigh.
The people that believe that 9/11 and 7/7 are government plots scare me, because very likely they vote. I see your sigh and raise you a groan.
