Another afternoon at the gym. I'm there to do cardio to get my heart in better shape, but this is largely for naught, since the big-screen television in my face keeps blasting Fox News at me and raising my blood pressure to unhealthy levels.

It seems their news cycle consists entirely of two basic story lines:

1) Trashing Obama's candidacy by any means necessary; and

2) Devoting ridiculous amounts of screen time to reports of precocious, photogenic white girls who've been kidnapped and are feared dead.

Eventually, I'm expecting the two heads of this hydra to merge as one, giving us mind-numbing headlines like....

(heck, what better way for Wrinkly Dude to rebound from the Paris Hilton beatdown?)

or....

(Lord knows they've accused Obama and his advisers of everything else)

I think I'll put the Mets on. At least I know when and how I'll be annoyed:P

Because I'm a true crime nut, I have been following the Caylee deal with great interest, so I'm cool with that story. If you want an entire HOUR of NON-STOP CAYLEE, then go to Nancy Grace on CNN.

As for trashing Obama, Fox isn't alone in that ("The Daily Show" where Jon Stewart wondered if Obama visited Bethlehem while in the Middle East so he could see where he was born. Or Cal Thomas who wrote in his column that the only way Obama could top his promises would be to go to the top of a mountain and be transfigured) Ok, admittedly Cal is a Conservative.

Are you going to buy seats from Shea?

I likes me my true crime (and fake crime, for that matter, in the form of mystery novels of all ilk) as much as the next person. It's just the sensationalizing and CONSTANT coverage of these two current stories, just as it's been others in the past, when the "victim" is pretty, female and white. Name me one covered as extensively as Caylee or Snooks who didn't fit that description; the only one I can think of was Elian Gonzalez, and that was all an embarrass-the-Clintons thing.

I just finished reading a far more compelling true-crime piece in the current New Yorker. It's a real life version of Catch Me if you Can (http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/08/11/080811fa_fact_grann) and had numerous twits and turns, but the protagonist was male, balding and (ewwww) French, so no way he's gonna make prime time like Snooks does.

(And no thanks. $829 for a pair of 44-year old seats? Hell, I've already got one to sit on that's only five years older than that:P)

"twits" was a typo, but it also works, so I left it in;)
