I celebrated some relatively good fortune from earlier today by getting Chiavettas for Em and me at Temple Beth Am. This synagogue is so reform, it holds lawn fetes (this Buffalophenomenon also being defined in the list at the previous link).
Still, they're good people (we have an occasional pulpit exchange with them and our confirmation class visits them every fall), and I figured grilled chicken for a good cause was as tasty a mitzvah as I was likely to pull off on short notice.
A few errands later, it had begun to rain, heavily at moments, but always with a hint of sun in the distance. By the time Emily and I made it back to our driveway, it was raining on the right side of our car and there was brilliant sunshine on the left side.
"C'mon, God," I kvetched. "Make up your mind."
At which point, Emily pointed. Toward the sun in the eastern sky.
God answered my dilemma with an instant rainbow.
I don't think I've ever received that direct an answer to a moment of intercession in almost 50 years on this rock.
Or a cooler one.
