I'm printing out a 28-page document that was essentially drafted before I went away, but which fates and emails conspired to keep off the printer until today, the final day I can submit it.  Other than some chatter involving that, and a series of panicked calls from another client starting right after 8:30 this morning, you could just about fire off a cannon in the legal world today and nobody other than me would likely hear it.

Also caught in the quiet is our mortgage refinance. Our existing lender took forever to get back to us, before finally deciding they couldn't do anything conventional now. So I took a recommendation from a real-estate lawyer friend and wound up back at the bank which actually financed our original loan on this place in 1994. My specific contact's name?

Gary Owens.

That may sound familiar to you, if you're a fan of old Laugh-In reruns or the original Space Ghost cartoons from the 60s.  I, however, know him even better from a comedy bit he did in the early 70s....

Lots of voice actors on this one, in addition to Owens from the golden age of comedy records- Dick Gautier, who played Hymie the Robot and Robin Hood in When Things Were Rotten for Mel Brooks;   Patti Deutsch, who did a lot of game shows back then; and Joan Gerber, who was the woman in that cartoon you remember who wasn't June Foray. But it's Owens who steals the soul show with that distinctive booming voice.  Just a few weeks ago, I bought an .mp3 of the whole album after all these years, and this clip gives you a hint of how he imitates the ol' Prince of Darkness.

The premise is simple enough. William Petey Bladder is a struggling writer who deals with the devil to get his exorcism thriller made into a best-seller and blockbuster film.  Owens begins by delivering the goods, and ends by traipsing the dear departed author through his real estate at the end, meeting many of the people you'd expect to meet down there:

No Nixon yet, but at least one other usual suspect;)

So we've got Satan's namesake shepherding our refi through.  Isn't that special?
