So. Seeing Ellen Barkin, for the first time in ages, as the love interest in Ocean's Thirteen, got us netflixing her earlier performances, the first to arrive being 1989's Sea of Love.

Many future connections, intended and otherwise, in this.

Al Pacino and his police buddies in this film joke about "Morticia Addams." His Sea of Love character's father is played, in a brief but significant turn, by William Hickey, who four years earlier had played the Don in Prizzi's Honor. Hickey's daughter in that film, Angelica Huston, went on to play Morticia in both of the Addams Family movies circa 1991 and 1993.

Pacino's partner in the early stages of the film looked frighteningly familiar. HE turned out to be Richard Jenkins, a/k/a "Late Nate" from all those years of Six Feet Under.

And arguably, this was the role that got John Goodman out of Roseanne-and-Flintstone territory and into roles not necessarily tied to his body weight.

Ellen was seriously hot back then, and, per Clooney's latest Ocean turn, still is. The even earlier Big Easy is still forthcoming so we can plot her hotness on an appopriate X-Y graph.
