That may evoke Emma Thompson's annuciating soliloquies in Angels in America, or simply seem an appropriate headline for an entry on my blog, seeing how they're all about me, dammit, mimimimiMI!. Alas, the header is merely a cheap reproduction of birthday candles, since it was four years ago today that this Relentless Pursuit of Procrastination began.

I timed my 1,000th entry for the journal's second anniversary, and #1,500 came exactly a year later.

This time? 1,903, bitches! Find some numerological significance in THAT!

----

I spent this happy morning by crawling out of bed at my usual uncivilized hour, only this time proceeding to the weekly 7 a.m. meeting of one of the many local networking/tip club/referral exchange types of business groups, where I'd been asked to fill in for another lawyer in our building who's away this week. This particular organization struck me as somewhere between the Chamber of Commerce and a weekend Amway sales conference, but overall, it didn't seem too scary when it came to the indoctrination of new members.  I did find it a bit odd, though, that when they began the meeting by introducing their leaders, almost everyone around the table, except me as the one guest and maybe two other members, stood up and identified themselves by their office or position with the group. It reminded me of the old MASH episode where Ferret Face tries to organize the indigenous South Korean population into a mean fighting machine:

Frank Burns: [indicating first Korean soldier] You will be platoon leader.
Korean Soldier: I thought you were the platoon leader.
Frank Burns: I am, but for purposes of our table of organization, I will be commander.
[to first Korean soldier]
Frank Burns: You will be platoon leader.
[to second Korean soldier]
Frank Burns: You will be squad leader.
[to third Korean soldier]
Frank Burns: And you will be... the squad.

Hey, if it produces more work, I don't mind being the squad.

So c'mon over to the party in Hell tonight commemorating the fourth anniversary. We'll have cake.

Happy anniversary to one of my favorite people to read on here! I may not agree with you, but I always enjoy how you turn a phrase.

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians can be fun to watch in an organization.

1903 was the year the first plane flew. Or something.
