Fievel for Fighting
Apr. 16th, 2008 06:05 pmAs noted here previously, La Chica is off from school this week, and Wednesday is the start of Eleanor's weekend, so I got back from my mail run to see them doing some serious Chick Flick bonding over the film An American Tail- at the very moment, in fact, that Fievel warbles out his non Oscar-nominated performance of the signature song "Somewhere Out There."
Don't get me wrong. I like the film, and I even have a deep emotional attachment to the song. But. For me, at least, it is an earworm of such lasting ability that I'm gonna have Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram sticking their heads out from under my sheets in the middle of the night for at least a week.
The only solution to this problem is to come up with a replacement brain bomb. As the header suggests, I have a modest selection right here, which comes from putting Fievel into the context of that later classic tune Superman:
I can't stand to squeak
I don't really care
If housewives cry out "EEK!"
While swinging a broom at me from a chair
I'm more than a man...I'm more than a mouse
More than a hole in the wall inside your house
It's not easy to eat cheese
Wish that I could go
Sail across the seas
Find a land with no cats
Where the streets are paved with cheese
The story's been told, the words even rhyme
There'll be twenty sequels like to "Land Before Time"
I'll look out somewhere, wondering if out there
There's an Oscar for Linda and James to share
It's not easy to eat cheese
Far, far far away...away from me
It's all right...you sleep under the same sky
It's not mushy...or anything...
I can't stand to squeak
That is the plain truth
Mice weren't made to speak
With cutesy faces drawn by Don Bluth
I'm only this one, pandimensional being
Seeking the ultimate answer Deep Thought is seeing
Only myself, trying to live in the moment
Even though kids think there's only this cute rodent
Inside of me
Inside me
Yeah, inside me
Inside of me
Im only a rat
In a funny old maze
Im only a rat
Living out in these dark days
Im only a rat
In a funny old maze
And its not easy, hmmm, hmmm, hmmm...
Its not easy to eat.... cheese.
