Cornell has only awarded two honorary degrees in its 143 years on the planet. One went to Ezra Cornell's partner in founding the place, Andrew Dickson White. The other was bestowed on David Starr Jordan, an noted icthyologist and later the first president of that famed junior college in Palo Alto, California which has somehow qualified for membership in NCAA's Division I.
Cornell has a traditional marching band, which continues to send me annual newsletters despite my never having set foot on Schoelkopf Field other than to collect a very expensive (and relatively useless) degree. Stanford has a somewhat more famous non-traditional band, which has not only set foot on the field, but has done so at least once during play.
Cornell's colors are Carnelian and white and its teams are known as the Big Red. Stanford's colors are Cardinal, black, white and sandstone and its teams are known as the Cardinal. All the surplus "S"s from both teams are collected at the end of each season and donated to worthy charities.
These two dynasties are now scheduled to meet within spitting distance of Disneyland later this week.
Go Red. You know, the right one.
