Raising from the Dead
Jan. 5th, 2008 11:17 amMy mind can be overwhelmed by mindless idiocy sometimes. That is to say, by television.
I made a library run just now for some div-vids and, having just finished Lindsay's last present (a page-turner, to be sure, but someone's got to send that guy back to Simile School for some remedial work), I wandered over to the New Books section and found, to my surprise, a new Rumpole novel.
The huh?!?, I reacted. I thought he was dead.
Then I remembered. Horace is quite alive, as, fortunately for us all, is John Mortimer. No, my addled brain was mistaking the death of his onscreen performer Leo McKern for his own still-ticking-in-a-funny-wig bod.
What, do you suppose, would be an appropriate jolt of electricity to my frontal lobe to discourage this kind of thinking?
----
I'm also using this opportunity to perform a different sort of resurrection.
I never did manage to compile a full list of my 2007 Books Read, and doubt I'd ever pull it off, even if I culled all my '07 journal entries which likely mention most of them. Be it resolved, however, that Ray shall do better in the New Year.
Since I do not likegreen eggs and ham postdated entries atop my journal, I've decided to park my 2008 books-read list in an odd but accessible place:
nanoraymo
This comm was the one I created before the 2005 NaNo round which produced my actual, still-barely-breathing novel(la), and which hasn't seen a hint of activity in close to a year. I will, yes, post-date a compilation entry atop that for my '08 Books Read list, along with the occasional real-time review of some of the best and worst of those reads. If you want to subscribe, it's open, not that I expect anyone to care other than meself.
My goal is to have at least 52 in there by November 1st, when, who knows?, I might restore it to its original purpose.
