The 16th birthday celebration is full in force here. Unlike so many of these Super Sweet Sixteen Wretched Excess Fests we see and read about, Em spent the day focusing on her friends: making some recipes for a special homecooked dinner for them that came with the Ratatouille DVD she got for Christmas, dancing and joking with them, and generally making us feel younger versus making her seem older.

Earlier, I made a quick run to Wegmans for a missing ingredient for one of the dishes, and in the parking lot was an oddly mixed vanity plate:

That covers two completely disjointed images, perhaps both before most peoples' time here. "Bill W" is the recognized shorthand for the name of Bill Wilson,  founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. "Mister Bill," on the other hand, refers (at least in my pop-culture frame of reference) to an early claymation character on Saturday Night Live who spent all of his existence getting mashed to death by an evil nemesis named Sluggo:

The mixing in my mind is pretty toxic at the moment:

"Hi, my name's Bill and I'm an alcoholic."

"Hi, Bill!"

(voiceover) Here comes Sponsor Sluggo with the coffee pot for the meeting.

"Please, Sluggo, that coffee is too hot, it's gonna scald me ohhhh NOOOOOO!"

Then we have life imitating Legally Blonde:

Beauty Queen/Law Student Accused of Kidnapping

and Snap!

If you ask me, she's not wearing nearly enough pink in either of those.

Then we have life imitating Legally Blonde:

Besotted Blond Bimbos. They are only newsworthy because many of us, somehow, need to feel superior in comparison to someone. It's the new classism.

Don't worry, Ray. If she gets sent to Maricopa County (Phoenix Metro)she'll get pink underwear.

Wow....seriously? This is a piece of cake!

2 lb Eggplants peeled and cut in;
-1 inch thick dice
4 Zucchinis; 1 inch thick dice
4 Tomatoes; peeled, seeded and
-diced
5 lg Onions; sliced
4 Garlic cloves; minced
1/2 ts Thyme
1/2 ts Oregano
1 c Olive oil
1/2 c Peanut oil
Salt and pepper; to taste

Instructions:
Place eggplant in a colander in layers each sprinkled with salt. Put a
weight on top and let stand 1 hour. Rinse eggplant and dry well in kitchen
cloth, squeezing to remove all the liquid. Heat peanut oil in pan and fry
eggplant in batches just until golden brown. Transfering it to a colander
to drain off fat. Cook zucchini in oil left in pan in the same manner. Heat
olive oil in a large saucepan and cook onions until soft, about 5 minutes.
Add bell pepper and garlic to the pan and cook 5 minutes. Add tomatoes,
seasonings and simmer all for 30 minutes covered. add zucchini and eggplant
to saucepan and continue simmering covered 1 hour. If at the end of this
time there is still too much liquid in pan, turn heat up and cook a few
more minutes.

NOTES : This is a great side dish with almost any grilled food. Serve at
room temperature with some lemon drops.
