Video Killed the Ray-a Brain Cells

• I just got an email welcoming me into the beta program for a video site called Hulu. Only problem is, I have no recollection whatsoever of ever applying for such a beta.  I think I know where this may have come from, but before I start clicking on things, I'd appreciate any experience anyone's had with this.

 

• I am also sorely disappointed in my own reading abilities. A long-ago newspaper colleague who now writes columns and blogs for Newsday tipped me off the other day that Peter Puck, that iconic figure of 70s televised hockey, was coming back to Canadian television! Starting tonight! Yay!  I even offered to DVR the things for him..... um, before noticing that the games were not CBC broadcasts (which we get on cable) but digital-tier programs on a cable-only Toronto outlet that we do not get. Boo! (Any Torontonians who get this station and have Tivo or something similar? Email me; I will offer extreme bribes to get you to record and forward these to me.)

it was me.
I posted about it in my blog, but was buried all day and have not sent out all the individual emails to warn you.
I accidented on a techcrunch splurge of invites for this locked down beta ( 5,00- they were gone fast) and decided to yule gift people. It is a sort of evil spam, i know.. but it does not sign you up for anything, just gives you the opportunity.. so I risked it in the spirit of giving. Please don't sue me. ( hee)

Hulu is a flash only site. I am interested to see how it scales, but it is similar to youtube technology. All in browser.. no download required.

It is owned by NBC ( remember when they yanked their stuff off iTUnes???) but also has shows from bravo and scifi. I know you like the video media, and have blogged about some of the shows on there--so thought it a good risk.

please forgive and feel free to chastise if it is evil. You will not find too many people who have experienced it... it has been a very locked down beta.
