Waiting for Snow-doh
Dec. 16th, 2007 09:41 am Apologies to Samuel Beckett. And Al and Ziggy, too, I suppose.
A country road. A tree.
Evening.
Snowagon, sitting on a low mound, is trying to take off his boot. He pulls at it with both hands, panting.
He gives up, exhausted, rests, tries again.
As before.
Enter Sledimir.
SNOWAGON:
(giving up again). Nothing to be done.
Enter Boy.
BOY:
(in a rush). Mr. Snow-doh told me to tell you the storm won't come this evening but surely tomorrow.
SNOWAGON:
It's not worthwhile now.
Silence.
SLEDIMIR:
No, it's not worthwhile now.
Silence.
SNOWAGON:
Well, shall we go?
SLEDIMIR:
Yes, let's go.
They do not move.
Curtain.

That, pretty much, describes the much-anticipated Blizzard of '07 in these parts. Predicted with direness since early last week, we were to stock our shelves and do any travel before this feared Storm of the Century bore down on us beginning sometime last night.
Right.
By 10 p.m. I was looking out at the perfectly clear hood of our one outdoor car and calling to the heavens above, "C'mon, would you at least flurry?"
There was maybe an inch more out there by feeding time this morning. Even the dogs came right in after breakfast. They're Labs. They know what REAL playin' snow looks like.
And still, the pundits continue to pund. It's still coming, they say. The systems just haven't merged yet. The dog ate the computer models.
Bring it on, big guy. I've got a manly subcompact to take You on between now and the end of church at noon.
Just while you're at it? Bomb the crap out of Cleveland, wouldya? The Bills could use the defensive help.

Date: 2007-12-16 10:13 pm (UTC)This is possibly the most snow I have seen fall all at once since I've been in Toronto, honestly. (Thank God it's falling on the ONE weekend that Husband is finally spending at home :D )
