The tree is up, and mostly decorated. We have not yet uttered the signature phrase of the season, spoken for many years when one of our two original cats decided to go exploring in the new greenery: "the tree has feet." There are assorted combinations of psycho lights blinking all about the dining room. Yes, little by little, we're getting there.
Some of tonight's inspiration came, not from 2007 years ago but from a mere five or six years back. For during those two brief, shining holiday seasons before AOL fired its trivia hosts, we had the pleasure of receiving holiday-card CDs of truly bizarre Christmas-ish songs and stories from a husband-and-wife hosting couple who had the best of ears for the worst the season had to offer. (I'm talking "worst" in the nicest of ways, not emo shit like this "Dear Mr. Jesus" thing I've been hearing about this year.)
Some of you know them, either from their Pop Culture game days on AOL, or from their going on since then to the staff of the online magazine Mental Floss. The Kara and Sandy mentioned there are the couple who brought many a smile to a Saturday night before the March '03 Massacre, and who, for the two Decembers before that, graced our mailboxes and ultimately our CD players with a total of 60 totally bonged-out selections of Christ-mania. Included are legendary contributions from the Beatles, Flintstones, Star Wars and Stooges- along with many that defy description unless you just hear them,
To give you an idea of just how mondo bizarro this shit is, the setlists for the two disks can be seen at the following two links, for their 2001 and 2002 compilations. Drop a comment or email if you absolutely positively need to hear one of these, and I'll figure out a way to fix ya up.
