But I did.

Not in the worst of ways- last night's BN run proved quite popular with the recipient of the music- three new CDs from Pat Metheny, Joan Osborne and (no longer Starbuckily exclusive) Joni Mitchell.

Rather, in the way that must sound all too familiar around this space of late.

Recall, late last month, that my car blew a tire on the way home from Rochester. Recall that I managed to get home safely from the blowout and get a virtually free replacement of it days later, but that I also planned to get all four of the original-purchase tires from '05 replaced before there was trouble with any of the other three (which, the tire guy told me, didn't look much better).

Now switch recalls- to one on Eleanor's truck.  It's had a check-engine issue for months, but then Ford sent one of those eerie little notices saying, essentially, that this particular model of Ford Ranger has been spotted at auditions for Spinal Tap's new drummer and that we might want to (a) get the wiring problem fixed and (b) not park the vehicle next to homes or flammable materials for awhile.  The appointment for that finally came this morning. In between, we've done a combination of my car, Eleanor's bike and the kindness of neighbors to get her to and fro without touching the truck. With all that up in the air, this just wasn't the time to put my car up in the air to replace the tires.

Thus, no sooner did Eleanor come back from the recall appointment, all happy and non-incendiary, than I pulled my car out and discovered the right front tire was flat.

"Shot," was the diagnosis of the AAA guy. Me, I bought a different vowel.

And guess who gets to go to Watkins Glen Friday morning, possibly with a side trip to Binghamton before or after that? (Yes, I will call you about that.)  I'm gonna try working in the full replacement tomorrow morning, and we'll see where we go from there. Hopefully not anywhere involving lit-up roof racks on emergency vehicles.

On the bright side, we've done nothing but laugh about the whole business, have plans for a yummy in-home meal tonight, and there's plenty of good music now. (Good baseball? Not so much.)

Plus we've been married for 20 years, and are averaging way fewer than a blowout a year in that time.

Congrats on the 20 years!! Good music choices, esp. Joni Mitchell, who does a stellar version of Etta James' "At Last."

Your car problems seem to be like my family's health problems: fixable, but far too frequent.
