Yesterday was not what you would call fun on the old entertainment scale. I had about eight errands to run in the downtown corridor, the last of them a real estate closing, which meant suit, tie and, surprisingly for this Arctic wasteland at this time of year, a heckuva lotta sweat.  I got through the first seven of them, even working in some downtime between stops 7 and 8 in the downtown court library which was (long before my time) my law school's downtown library.

The final stop was right across Eagle Street from the Law School Library, so a good 15 minutes early for my closing, I walked across, checking, as good pedestrians do in this land, for oncoming traffic. From the left as you step off the curb, then toward the right as you cross the center line.

During this latter obedience to the rules of the road, I got hit by a car. One which was backing into a parking space which my poor, sore body was having the nerve to occupy at that very second.

I faceplanted, sending my glasses about two yards in front of me and my knees to the edge of the sidewalk.  The courthouse proper being on that side of the street, I was quickly surrounded by more Sheriff's deputies than were on duty at the '68 Democratic convention, all of whom were strongly recommending an ambulance.

Nothing personal, guys, but I know a bit too much about Rural Metro. I scraped the dirt off my forehead, got the name of the moron who failed to look before making his parallel park (and found he was a county employee, from the looks of him someone on the Giambra-Keane "Friends and Family" Plan), and headed in for my closing.

A couple of hours later, I was home- safe, sound and drinking.

----

Today's highlight was getting the second of my four wisdom teeth pulled. This went far too smoothly in comparison.

----

On the way home, I passed the hotel at Exit 49 run by the terminally tacky Salvatore's Italian Gardens crew, which has a Jumbotron out facing Transit devoted, in recent weeks, to reporting "on this day in ____" type news. Today's was relevant to more than a few of us, for Salvatore reminded me that today is the 40th anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek.

Ergo,
it is also the 11th anniversary of the premiere of something far less ambitious called seaQuest 2047.

The Wikipedia page is still there, so it must have been true. Current and former Friends of this page including [livejournal.com profile] thanatos_kalos, [livejournal.com profile] swingdancefan and [livejournal.com profile] ripperlyn were all part of that debut. This writer came along later, and was one of the last to abandon ship even after other authors had boldly gone where subduction weapons had not gone before.  Yet somehow, despite all these attacks on my person of the past 30 hours, I remain proud of that legacy, as enduring a form of fanfic as anything I see to this day.

I hope you are not too sore tomorrow. I hate downtown drivers - especially the ones of the Giambra friends and family plan - but I work in South Buffalo so I have to say that the idiot couldn't have been a Keane guy.

Oh my gosh, Ray! I hope you're feeling better tomorrow. How horrible! Are you sure you didn't need to see a doctor? You know...I DO know an excellent lawyer. :-)

*hugs*

1. Are you experiencing any numbness, tingling, or severe pain anywhere? Any major problems with movement? Blurred vision?

2. You ARE going to see your Primary about this ASAP, right ?

3. There are perhaps three medics I'd allow to work on anyone I cared about. Good choice to not call. :P But there's a police report? And you're going to sue the asshole?

4. 11 years already? Tempus fugit...

Well, I do have this residual pain in my upper jaw.... but that's probably from having the wisdom tooth pulled, huh?

(Btw, if I'm gonna see my primary about ANYTHING, it's to make sure I'm okay from that. Did you know that novocaine comes in two varieties, regular and decaf? I didn't. He gave me three shots of the stuff for the extraction, and then noticed it was the caffeinated kind. My BP shot up to 140/100 after that, and he was plenty nervous about it. But I seem fine today.

There is a police report; they interrupted my gorram closing to get my information. And I joked with the clients that I was gonna hire myself for the job, so I could charge myself a third of the verdict.

Unless I get real goofy from it (like anyone could tell?),I doubt I'll bother. I might get someone to send him a demand letter just to jack up his premiums.
