Al, The President's Man
Aug. 29th, 2007 09:11 pmI should preface this entry by stating that, without exception, the day-to-day staffers of the Justice Department, who work regularly in the upstate New York Bankruptcy Courts, have been professional, decent, and above all, apolitical. I've worked with people in the local U.S. Attorney's and related offices, from Reagan to Bush to Clinton to He Who Must Not Be Named, and neither the people in those offices nor their agendas have changed, for better or worse, on account of which way the political winds are blowing.
Even so,....
When I arrived at one of their offices today for a routine early-case hearing, my client and I were both early, so we got to check out the waiting room in some detail. The omnipresent portrait of the Pretender in Chief ![]()
was still up on the wall just inside the reception area, but until this week, that photo was adjacent to an equally happy smiling portrait of the Honorable Alberto Gonzales.
Someone in this office had taken the latter photo off the wall and planted it, face down, on the top of the file cabinet immediately below the previous places of honor.
I couldn't have captured the moment better if I'd tried.

Eleanor delivered all of yesterday's goodies in her truck while I was on the road in my own familiar car. Twenty miles away from the end of the voyage, I had my first on-the-road blowout in years, but the Thruway contractor was prompt and pleasant in putting my donut on, so we were delayed by barely half an hour after it happened. These are the original car tires from close to 25,000 miles ago, so they don't owe us anything.

Em brought a friend to join her at mall and movies, after our dental appointments this morning while I was inspecting the official portraits downtown, and blowout aside, we all had a great time.
