David 44, Goliath 14
Jul. 17th, 2007 04:12 pmI was waiting to turn on to Sheridan just now, and was behind a lime-green Prius with this window decal on the top of the rear windshield:

Making this all the more timely was a sales contest running at Eleanor's store over the weekend. Every product of Brand X sold qualified the salesperson for one chance in a nationwide drawing for.... a Hummer.
Yeah, that sends the right message there, doesn't it? Between the income tax on the prize, the extra cost to insure and those awesome 14 miles per gallon you'd get on a good day in one of those tanks?

I've now finished my reread of Book Six and am getting ready to dig a spoiler-free hole pending the arrival of You KnowWho What in just over 3 days' time. One of our recent in-house chats about the franchise involved who made the better Dumbledore- Richard Harris or Michael Gambon.
Not that there's any problem with the latter actor- those would have been difficult robes to fill under any circumstances, particularly posthumously- but all three of us concluded that the R.H. factor was just a little more Dumbledorian in the role. Eleanor specifically commented how Harris's portrayal seemed a bit kinder, and his harsh moments less angry than his successor's.
Lumos!, went my memory at that point. For I've certainly known Harris to play Pissed Off perfectly well when he needed to. The role that revived his major motion picture career, without which he might not have been considered for the AD role, was Jim Sheridan's powerful 1990 film titled The Field. We just Netflixed it and it's here for our Potter-palate-cleansing before the weekend. His performance, as I recall it, is everything Dumbledore never was: angry, abrupt, visceral. Well, it did share one thing with his later portrayal: both were freakin awesome.
ETA. Oops- forgot to mention: Sean Bean plays RH's son in the film. That oughtta up the Netflix count around here by at least a few;)

I just inherited the grocery list, since Eleanor's not going to get out of work in time to fill it. One of the items on it is "chocolate." This is known as "giving me something I can work with." Later, and loves to all:)

Date: 2007-07-18 02:49 am (UTC)I'm awaiting Harry along with the rest of the world, but I won't be camping out at Barnes and Noble. And yes, I'm firmly in the RH as Dumbledore camp.
Chocolate....yum....
