Technical dittifulties II
May. 13th, 2006 08:22 pmWe weren't through with the bugs, though.
I got an email this afternoon from another of the Good People around these parts,
thanatos_kalos, needing some voice assistance with a spoof video she's doing for a class project for her Masters'. I'd passed on this previously mainly because my high-teknikul setup here lacked one vital thing: a microphone.
I rooted through drawers. I went to the neighbor's home to see if they might have a mike. No ruck. But then I had a brilliant idear: phone it in.
I'd never done a phone post, but I knew, from some of you who have, that they come out on the other end in perfectly lovely .mp3 files.
So off I toodled to the Land of FAQs, locating the secret local number for the task (one of only three north of Westchester, from what I can tell), called it, and.... nothing but a terse "Goodbye" and a hangup.
I tried it again after discovering the need to authorize my phone number. Goodbye.
I waited awhile and tried yet again. Goodbye.
I tried numbers in bigger cities, numbers in smaller cities. Goodbye.
Finally, I needed to run additional errands, so moi said Goodbye, stopping at MallWart on my way home to get the cheapest mike I could find.
Yet you KNOW I had to try one more time before futzing with Sound Recorder on the PC. I dial Miss Goodbye one more time and.... "Welcome! to the Live Journal Voice Post System!"
Anybody wanna buy a slightly used microphone?
Didn't think so.
Goodbye.
