Abscess Scentral
Mar. 6th, 2007 05:54 pmThe good times have not been rolling for Biggsy the Cat.
It's been six weeks to the day since we discovered him bleeding from an abscess in the middle of his tummy. His wound, which appeared to be healing nicely at two weeks, pretty much started getting worse after about four. He's been clearly in pain more often than we would expect at this stage, and in recent days even seemed to have trouble moving short distances.
Only his appetite has seemed unaffected.
We took him back in today to see what was going on. Surgery is what's going on, first thing Friday morning.
They're going to remove the entire area, sew him up, and send in tissue to a pathologist who will be the only one to tell whether it's been something cancerous the whole time.
He's such a brave little guy. At various times in the past day, despite his pain and what all this ickiness must do to an instinctively clean animal, he's come up to each of us where we've been working or reading, almost as if to say "Thank you."
The money is tight these days- Eleanor's been put on a revised commission schedule that has cut her pay in half for the short term- and we struggled and negotiated to get the estimated bill to a point we could afford. I then drove us all home before she had to turn right around and go into work.
What was the first song she heard in her truck as she backed out of the garage? "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
If that's not a sign we're doing the right thing, for a little guy who's given us so much love, I don't know what is.
Pray for him. Little bite-size kitty prayers, preferably in gravy.

*prayers as flaky and succulent as fresh fish...*
...And I'll use my Happy Cat icon for good luck.
