Actual language in my head may be a bit stronger.

Emily woke up within the past hour or so with the post-op pain suddenly much worse. There's serious question about whether she'll be able to go back to school, and work, tomorrow (when it would be ideal) or even Tuesday (when it's kinda essential).

Eleanor's off to the pharmacy for some more clove oil- a nonprescription remedy she's sworn by for years. Em, meanwhile, is back on Planet Lortab and praying to avoid the meteoric side effects of that.

I have no frame of reference for this; I was subjected to the once-common orthodontic "four on the floor" procedure when I was maybe ten, with the promise that it would "make room" for the wisdom teeth. Indeed, it did; but it didn't "make them come in straight" or "make them easy to clean," and thus, all four turned into cavity magnets that got painlessly extracted in my forties when there was little left of any of them.

If I could turn back time, and share this pain, I would do so in a nanosecond.

We had the same dentist...

Clove oil is a good remedy, but hydrocodone is better.

I got all 4 wisdom teeth extracted on July 10, 1973 - a Tuesday, and my 27th birthday.

Two days before then I was enjoying the combined effects of Tylenol with codeine washed-down with beer. Things got "interesting" when the Jehova's Witnesses knocked on the door. I managed to debate Biblical points successfully. One of them was talking about the "whorelet of Balylon" and all I could think of was an Arab in a red dress. Never thought much of the JW's intellect after then.

My memory of my Dad having all four pulled was nightmarish - he got dry socket and didn't know it, so lay on the couch in agony with a damp rag in his mouth. I was 7 or 8 at the time. He wrote me a note asking me if I wanted to watch Scooby-Doo, but I couldn't read his writing so I took it to Mom who told me I couldn't turn on my cartoon. So it was just AWFUL. ;)

I was worried about mine, but hydrocodone meant sleep, and the rest I could deal with. All four, impacted, woohoo. The scarring has been a bit of an issue because I can get seeds caught in it, but otherwise its been good. I hope that Em will be on the up and up soon (not the drugged kind). Sending her good thoughts.

Your memory is an important one wherever it gets nested. Thank you ::hugs::

I was very lucky w/my wisdom teeth extractions, even though I had one full bony impaction and three partially impacted. I had it done at 1:00 p.m. and was able to eat chili for dinner; don't recall taking a lot of pain meds afterwards although I'm sure I probably had some that night. I was about Emily's age at the time.

My ex had his taken out when he was in his mid-thirties, and didn't have quite as easy a time. He had dry sockets and had to go back to have that treated. Hope your baby will get along much better, very soon.

When I was in Emily's place, I had a sudden spike in pain after one night where I'd accidentally slept on the side of my face where the extractions had been done (mine were done in two steps to help me avoid this exact issue). I did a good job of falling asleep on my left side, but rolled onto my right during the night, putting pressure on the wounds and causing further tissue damage. When I woke up, I was fine - the pressure kept the pain at bay - but once the nerves fully woke up (about 5 minutes later) I was in excruciating pain. The only suggestion I have, above and beyond what you're already doing, is to try to get Emily to sleep on her back and keep pressure off the sides of her face. If that means sitting her up in a Barcalounger all night, or stuffing four pillows under her head, so be it. It made a world of difference to me. I hope that helps!
