These... are the Days... of the Week.
Apr. 9th, 2012 04:36 pmThis morning: Went out early to get back in time for dishwasher-repair appointment. Did enough banking to ensure that Emily's wisdom-tooth appointment on Friday will proceed as scheduled. Wandered round Wally World in search of, among other things, a replacement charging/USB cord for my phone, which they did not have in stock. Thousands of cases in hundreds of cheap tacky colors, though.
This afternoon: Got back for the 1-5 appointment window, which didn't open until about 45 minutes ago. Dude turned on the dishwasher, which promptly made none of the noises that had troubled us, and all of the right noises confirming that it is working. Maybe the five-day vacation was enough to get the motor over whatever its buzz-and-not-run problems were. (I'm running a test load now to see how that's going.) If it is a shot motor, it's a $300-plus repair, whereas a new unit would probably be less than that on sale, so I think we'll take our chances. Meanwhile, the whole time he was diagnosing, his battle-ready laptop kept making the all-too-familiar sounds of a Vista machine powering down and rebooting- sounds unheard in this house, despite many attempts, for over 24 hours.
Me: So you having problems with that laptop?
Him: Yeah, it keeps resetting itself.
Me: Well, we have one on the fritz, too. Since you're charging me almost $75 to not fix our dishwasher, how much to not fix my wife's laptop?
Him: You couldn't afford it.
Tonight: First and only weight training class of the week, since the trainer has the rest of the week off and will be spending it with her husband in Arizona. Last time they went on vacation, they took their friend (and her then-boss at the gym) with them for a week, only to have him fire her the following weekend. Maybe I can get them to bring a Republican candidate with them this time so they can fire him for a change.
Tomorrow: Was supposed to be in a hearing for most of the day here, but it just got last-minute postponed for at least the third time (the first and most recent by the other side). At this rate we will probably conduct the deposition in Klingon. So instead I'm going to use the time to take the mostly-dead laptop to the guru. He charges less to not fix things than Sears does.
Beyond that: Em gets home Thursday, Dr. Teeth does the deed on Friday, and hopefully by then I won't be in the horsepital myself over something incredibly stupid I did yesterday that has gotten no worse but still worries me.
And.....dishwasher cycle is done. Seems to have worked on a small load. Toodles.

Runners up:
"It's just a pulled muscle, it's not really shooting pains down my left arm."
"I'm sure my pee will clear out that nasty blood color in a day or so."
and
"That dizziness, blurred vision, and ringing in my ears after the steamer trunk fell from the loft onto my head will go away after an aspirin and a little lie down."
