8 a.m.

Aaaaaaand we just woke up to the happy sight of our clocks and appliances all being off. Yup, somewhere between 6 and 8 AM, that happened.

Things we have:
- landline;
- mobiles, mine (and, now, Emily's) chargeable in the car;
- non-Internetted computer

And it's through the latter that I can tell that this is an area-wide problem. How?

Usually there's a butt-ton of 'em round the neighborhood, with clever names like Noodles and Virushere.

So my plan is to lay in some coffee and get working on at least writing things and calling people. The sun's out, it's not too cold (we know, from our fabulous '06 experience, that the furnace is off but the hot water heater works), and thank gods I replaced this laptop battery in January because I've now got close to 5 hours to go before I'll need to find a charging spot.

----

11ish.

Drove out for coffee and hot water for Eleanor's tea, and saw exactly one truck working in the area.  Called the tollfree number at Niagara Mohawk (sorry, National Grid, I'm stubborn) and talked to one of those Siri-like voice prompt thingies, who told me it had already received a "lines down" report and we. Would. Be. Back on. Line by.        Eleven.                       A.M.

From the time-stamp, you can see that didn't happen. Mainly because 30 different Looky-Lous and Loises have been out there bugging the linemen to find out when the power will be back on. About an hour after you people shut up, is when!

I've gotten enough done to get out of here.

One-something.

It came back maybe ten minutes after I left.  Been catching up on printing and whatnot since then. And hey- there's email again!  Including one from the Redbox that we get a free rental!

Well, Hugo's out now, and Em's been bugging us to see that. So I picked that one, selected the nearby kiosk, found the hidden prompt for the credit code, and hit checkout.

See what they did there? They had a problem with my credit card on a transaction for $0.00.

Welcome to my day.  At least now I can bitch to you about it, though.
