captainsblog: (Foot)
I left early yesterday to attend to something that's been bugging me for quite some time: I had a medical professional diagnose my aching feet.

Really, that's my problem. Not the misheard lyric in the alt song "Sail," which has a recurring line of "blame it on my ADD" but I Mondegreened it into "blame it on my aching feet."

I'll be honest: the tootsies are some hot messies. I've had a nail on the right big toe that is about to fall off after weeks of seeming to have an fungal infection; the treatment ointment cleared it up but also dissolved the connection to the bed.  It's bandaged and doesn't hurt, but the rest of the soles and ankles are pretty ugly and painful to the point where I need to wear some kind of supporting shoewear anywhere other than in bed.  Two weekends ago, a friend mentioned that a local chiropractor has been treating something similar sounding with her feet, and it's a practice Eleanor had some success with a few years back. So I headed over, took off my sneaks and socks, and got the verdict yesterday:

Could be worse, and probably is treatable.  We start Thursday, one foot at a time every three or four days; if the afterpain isn't too bad, we may ramp it up to both feet per session. It's not covered by insurance but the cost is reasonable and I'm within 100 bucks of my deductible for everything else.  I'll need to adjust my exercise schedule so I'm not going direct from table to treadmill, but those appointments can be staggered, as well.  Most people get major relief in 4-8 weeks, with followups then every few months.

That may bring the thrill of victory- which will be better than the agony of de feet.

My other major accomplishment of the past 24 hours was waving a red flag at a bully.

I'm sure you've followed the misadventures of the world's richest asshole in his still-in-motion failing at taking over Twitter. I never belonged to that service; the original 140-character limit was too small for my words, and by the time they'd doubled it to 280, they'd turned it into a monumental sewer of hate speech and manipulation. I will confess to occasionally checking in on a particular user's Tweets, but more and more, they insisted on me BELONGING in order to just read. One fine example: a former local sports journalist and radio personality, whose Tweets during Bills games were often insightful and ahead of the mainstream websites. I'd click on a link to him, would get maybe his one or two most recent posts, and then I'd hit the memberwall:

Welp. At least when I did it late last month, there was also an option to sign in with Google. So I did- and next thing I knew I'd been signed up. I kept my real name, but when asked for a "handle" (the thing after the @ sign like atsign-RealFormerGuy), I went with the rather disarming choice of lDontUseTwitter.  (The first I is a smallcase L, because the one with the real capital I was either already taken or the site won't let you use it).  I then started getting a ton of nag emails to expand my profile, follow more people (I chose only Prez Joe cos you had to follow SOMEBODY), blah, blah and blah, all of which I ignored or blocked.

Then Musk took over and sent the place to shittier. He proposed charging celebrity-types 20 bucks for their hard-earned "blue checks" verifying that they were who they said they were. Celebs complained and Elon dropped it to eight bucks, but also dropped virtually all actual verification in the process.  Celebs retaliated by changing their names to "Elon Musk" and making fun of the spoiled little man-child. He hissied back by locking those celebs out and threatening to ban anyone for using a fake name unless it was clearly marked as parody.

Sounded like time to make my move. So, since yesterday,....

I'm hoping to break a record for being banned from the asshole's site before actually tweeting anything. I just checked, and apparently I'm still there.

Maybe I'll just take pictures of my feet with my shoes and socks off and see if THAT violates his terms of service:P
