Well, we survived the almost-70 mph winds of much of the past 36 hours. We only lost power for a few seconds Sunday afternoon; the library was nice enough to hand-check a DVD for us while theirs was out (and even back-loaded it onto my account since, so I can bring it back tomorrow); and there didn't appear to be much damage around the neighborhood when I took Pepper out this morning. Our main casualty was some plastic roofing on the greenhouse and some associated woodworking. Manageable.
I thought about taking Eleanor's more substantial car for a Rochester drive today, but decided to chance it. Oddly, even though the winds were diminished in the afternoon compared to this morning (and those were even down from the day before), the drive home produced a lot more resistance, wind noise in the car, and much lower gas mileage than I usually get. But, derp, I was driving westbound, where all of this system has been coming from.
We did not stay up for the Oscars, but overall it sounded like good efforts got rewarded. We loved Green Book, which got Best Picture; likewise, Roma, which won for director and foreign film; and BlacKKKlansman, which got Spike Lee his first film-specific Oscar for adapted screenplay. The biggest omission, in my thinking, was that the Mr. Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor wasn't even nominated. I have a couple of theories as to why, but it still would've been speshul, kin yew say speshul, if someone from his family could have gotten up there to remind us to be kind to one another- no doubt producing a mean -spirited tweet from Mar-a-Cheeto.
The Sabres made a couple of decent trades at the deadline today, andseem to be playing better the past week or so against far better opponents than ones they were sucking against earlier in the month. And the Mets have played their first pre-season games. All in all, things are moving along here:)
ETA. I walked out of the fargin room just now and Tonto scored three goals- and then a fourth after I stopped paying attention.
