captainsblog: (Pepper)
Sunday, we made it official. Pepper had a fine first night in the new home, she was a perfectly behaved lady at the Parp! that morning (doing better than me- I tripped on a tree root, faceplanted but was fortunately okay other than a few scrapes), and late that afternoon Emilee came over with her kibble, her vet records and most importantly, her blessing.

None of the early fears have amounted to anything. She's energetic and playful, but has not shown tendencies to break into garbage or out of confined spaces. The only odd trick she may have picked up, rather, is that we've both come in from the garage to find the kitchen door locked from the inside.  We suspect she's jumping up on it when left alone and leaning on the latch.  And ohhh, when we get home- reunited and it feels so good:)

Our other concern was with the cats, and that's largely a big nothingburger.  The evil kitty has ignored her, shows no concern even when the dog is right next to her, and hasn't adjusted her routine one iota- which has meant being exiled to the garage round 3 each morning from the constant yowling. Her sweet sister Zoey, on the other hand? She hid for the entire first day, came up yesterday hissing every time Pepper got close, but for today has been almost entirely her old self.  I give it till the weekend before they're spooning.

Tonight, I picked up a new ID tag for her at Petco with her new contact info. She's microchipped, so we will need to adjust the data on that, as well. Then tomorrow, it's off to the town to return Ebony's license tag and apply for her new one- and to bring her vet records over to our place so we get her on the schedule for things.  (They also just sent the bill for what they euphemistically call "final services"- I was going to take care of that tonight, but wound up with a tire pressure light on JARVIS which needed clearing.)

I'm even convinced this dog brings good karma with her.  I'm now two days into my four-day marathon of court, and in terms of sheer number of appearances I am well past halfway.  Yesterday I had three in two places, one not requiring an appearance, the others going unexpectedly well in different ways.  Then today was all in one court, but for three different clients beginning at 9 and not getting out until after 1. All went as well as expected or even better. In the afternoons, I've gotten decent amounts of other work done, as well. Best of all, I've resolved things the next two days so I have only one brief appearance each morning, both of them here, and will only go out of town if I have sufficient work to justify it.

About the only downer has come from the Mets, who are about to lose just lost their fifth straight game, this one to a horrible team. The two previous games to this one, they struck out 33 Chicago Cubs and still lost both of them. Tonight is wasting another decent pitching effort because everybody on the team has forgotten how to hit.

I'd offer to loan them the dog, who has shown quite a talent for going after a ball these past few days, but the team has something of a bad history about that:
