Today's Steaming Pile of Stupid
Aug. 18th, 2015 09:11 pmI spent almost the entire workday downtown, on account of three hearings six hours apart (more like seven by the time the final one ended). Got a surprising amount of work done in between them all, but the lowlight of all of that was dealing with the wonderful world of Banks in Bankruptcy.
They hate you. They don't trust you. They make it difficult for you to pay them and then bitch about the fact that you fell behind. And ten years ago, Congress backed up a truckload of gimmes to them and said, here you go, and thanks for all the campaign contributions.
One of those gives lenders the right to repossess your car even if you're current, just because you filed a BK. No, they want you to sign and file an agreement that is probably the stupidest, most inconsistent, least understood Thing in the entire 1,532 (at last count) sections of the Bankruptcy Code.
Here's the pertinent text of the letter concerning one of these that I reviewed today: the "FRBP" reference is irrelevant, and "341 meeting" is "the day you had to go to court" in BK-ese:
"Pursuant to FRBP 4008(a), the agreement must be filed within 60 days after the 341 meeting. If the agreement is not received by 7/22/15, we will be unable to sign the agreement."
They sent the agreement on August 5th. Worse, I'm sure they see nothing wrong whatsoever in organizing things this way.
I'm done for the day. I hope to have a less stressed day when I wake up yesterday;)
