Thursday tends to be the online day for Throwback pictures, which I've typically ignored. Yet this week I can't, because among the recently located treasures of childhood memories was this photo of my mom. I share it today, three days before Thursday, because today would've been her 98th birthday:

Mom1

I can't say I see any incredible resemblance there to me, to the sibs, or to Emily or my nieces. But it's definitely dead-on for how I'll always remember mom from 15 to 45 years later. For that picture is from 1945, which would have made her 28 at the time it was taken (sometime before October of that year).

The back of the photo is almost as interesting, with two handwritings: the top clearly hers (I forged her signature on report cards and absence notes for nearly all of my public school career), but the bottom?  Could've been either of my sisters; if this print came into the house soon after it was taken, it would've made sense that it be Sandy's writing, commenting on her being pregnant with Donna at the time:

Mom2

Now THAT, I can attest to being a resemblance; I've never been a morning person, either.

As I've likely said here before, when once asked what traits I got from our mother, my immediate reply was, "All of my compassion, and none of my common sense."  As I come close to beginning my 56th year, doubling the age she was in this photo, that remains just as true as ever:)
