It's freakin' late summer out there.  The kid across the street was just mowing his lawn.  I know, it's downhill from here, but I got to spend over an hour out in the sunshine and funshine of over 14,000 people giving thanks by being incredibly goofy in a fairly steady southbound direction.

Near the start- a chef from a local steakhouse belting out the National Anthem....

....and something you see at every race- a skateboarding Santa playing a trumpet.

There were the usual elves, reindeer (one pack of them ending in "Donner" and "Blitzed") and at least one racing pink flamingo. I ran with two friends- 14,000 people and I chose the one who brought a personal trainer (her son) with her, and he kept us motivated to keep a good pace through the whole not-quite-5-miles of the thing.

That's them, at the end- Marty could've run there and back twice in the time it takes us old farts, but he stayed with his mom so I could get a minute or so ahead at the end to get that picture:)

Not a bad time for not having been out on the road hardly at all since August- 1:06 and a 13:51 mile pace.  It scares me no end that I have now crept to more than a third of a Half.

Well organized, all around. They let you park at either end and ran shuttles accordingly; the intersections were all well managed; and about the only FAIL was their chip timers, which were supposed to be secured to a sneaker lace and then folded over to stick to adhesive on the plastic.  Mine stayed stuck for maybe a mile; I stopped for a second and pinned it with one of the bib corner pins, but over the remainder of the race, I saw close to a half dozen of the things that had fallen off, leaving people who might not notice with no official time after All That.

It's just us as the dinner table, unexpectedly, but we have an abundance of thankfulness that we will just pile on to the other two place settings.
