captainsblog: (Running man)
I'm now offishkilly signed up for the 5K in Cambridge (the Massachusetts one; sorry, punters;) three weeks from Saturday. This morning, I hit a new plateau of going straight through at a running pace for 16 out of 21 minutes, surrounded by a warmup and cooldown on either side. That alone would produce a decent effort over 5K if I add just a minute to either side of the running stretch, but if I finish the remaining three weeks of the app, it'll be 5/30/5 and I'll blow my June debut away.

Details are also emerging for the surrounding trip. I begin by detouring to my sister's on the evening of the 16th, then head up I-88 to the 90 on Friday the 17th. Anyone 518 or 413-ish (or whatever they're calling those now), I can plan lunch or happy hour anytime from late morning to late afternoon. Friday night and Saturday will be at my college roommates' place just west of the Hub, and we'll then be at the Fenway game that Saturday afternoon into early evening.

Saturday night will be with, or near, [livejournal.com profile] thediva_laments and [livejournal.com profile] 9thkvius, depending on how up they are to company and how up the thermometer is at that point. The race is at 9 on Sunday morning, and there are semi-definite plans to meet up with old high school peeps when it's done.

Later that afternoon belongs to I-95, through RI and CT, where I hope to catch up with ace C&G writer Susan Bigelow, and my niece and her fam if they're around.  Early Monday remains undecided, but the Mets (assuming they haven't turned their franchise back to the league by then:P) will be my home for Monday evening the 20th. Many blessings to a fellow blogger who has secured tickets, parking and two beloved mutual friends for the occasion:)

And THAT will being us back to Home, doh, after one final evening on the road someplace.

That's what I'm doing. What our child is doing, not so certain.  She and Cameron have run into a buzzsaw of bullshit over their apartment application, and we now have four-plus glorious days of not knowing whether there's a reasonable human being, 3,000 miles away, who can listen to reason (and, yes, more than a little emotion) and recognize that the landlord standards of pre-2008 just don't make sense for newcomers to the rental market anymore.  We've been promised an answer on Monday, and have begun looking into pre-emptive alternatives (including one Eleanor found, in a building not far from the one we're waiting on that her own sister once lived in), but it's going to be a stressful end-of-week and weekend until we know for sure.
