One down, two to go. Or seven. Depending.
Jun. 16th, 2012 05:55 pmA week into Couch to 5K and I'm already screwing up the app, but I'm still doing the work.
Three times this week, I've done a timed half-hour mix of walk and jog. The app says it was the same each time- 5 minute walk to warm up, then 8 cycles of run (60 seconds) and walk (90 seconds) and finally a 5 minute cooldown. I swear, though, today's third installment cut the walk intervals down to 60 seconds, but maybe I'm just imagining that.
The past two, I've done inside on a treadmill. Both today and Thursday, I wound up with pre-8 a.m. commitments that made it impossible to run outside before it got beastly around here. From here on, I think I'll alternate inside and outside just so I don't get treaded into a false sense of how I'm doing.
The next installment, either tomorrow or Monday, will be the first of the second-week schedule, which increases each interval by 50 percent. I'd found the first effort last Tuesday got me extremely winded, even after all my years of elliptical work, so I'm going to do that first second-week one early, and outside, to compare how this week of practice has helped.
Our friend Kimmy is still scheduled to be here, two weeks from today, to run a 5K near here, and to do it with me if I feel up to it. The next week's worth will tell, I think, if I can realistically go that far in a straight shot at the end of just three weeks in.
