After hearing the news from Joplin and such from the past few days, we were just saying that, all in all, our hundred-inch-of-snow winters were probably more tolerable than having to run the risk of heavy weather in the spring and summer. Which would be true, if I weren't now looking at a National Weather Service crawl on my sister's tv of potential twisters coming through this very town later tonight.
Yet, other than getting poured on minutes before walking into my office at 7-something this morning (problem solved by not walking into said office) and hitting some nasty t-storms just outside of Elmira (where I passed a Sullivan Funeral Home and wondering if anyone's related to it), it's been muggy as all hell but mostly rainfree and sunny. At least if a house falls on my sister tonight, I'm here to help pry it off;)
Great bumper sticker somewhere on the drive: Southern Tier NY is the edge of fracking country, which has inspired much debate in the energy and natural resource communities about the safety of the technique for pulling natural gas out of low-level mineral deposits. One truck I drove past had a pair of supportive bumper stickers for the process. One was kinda dull and predictable ("NATURAL GAS DRILLING FOR ENERGY INDEPENDENCE" or somesuch), but the other was much more direct (scroll over the picture if you can't read the one on the left):
Well, yeah, but after seeing Gaslands, I don't think I'd recommend covering up the smell by lighting a match;)

Been up since 5 today. Will need to be up probably by 6 tomorrow to make Olean court by 10:30. Then home. And I do mean Sweet Home, and not the one in Alabama or surrounding Looney Acres.
