It doesn't apply to us- Buffalo commutes are famously short- but I worry for some of my fellow Northeasterners about this Time magazine graphic:

What led me to that article was this one, linked to by a Facebook friend, titled "Worst Ad Placement Ever?" Erm, no. The worst one ever was when I saw the Why Your State Sucks link, clicked it, and got fed a popunder ad from Time Fucking Magazine for mail-order brides. Sigh- just attach a turbine to Henry Luce's grave- it'll power the electrical grid of that entire map.

Quick updates:

- I dropped off the picture from last night's gym visit this afternoon. Management was distinctly underwhelmed by my concern.

- Yesterday's "good result" for a client got downgraded to "meh" late this afternooon when the opposition decided that a court-ordered payment of my fees was optional. I've left it to the client to decide if they want to spend thousands imprisoning the guy on account of him not paying me hundreds.

- Speaking of imprisoned defendants, the Hassan trial continues, and continues to be a goat rodeo of epic proportions. The guy is now representing himself, no doubt so he can set up a "ineffective assistance of counsel" grounds for appeal. (Such is not unheard of in these parts: my first-year criminal law professor was a bit of a renegade hippie type, and his star pupil from the 70s was a noted defender of murderers in these parts. A few years after I graduated, Professor K was brought up on kiddie porn charges, and of course his teacher's-pet lawyer defended him- unsuccessfully. Dude actually played the "ineffective assistance of counsel" card on his lawyer on appeal, rendering his credibility so low that he had to roll down his socks in order to see the top of it.)

- Our main reaction to the Oscar nominations was this-

-for The Kids are All Right getting a Best Picture nod and nominations for Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo. We rented the Netflix of it- twice- and were bummed to find that it's one of an increasing number of "rental" titles they distribute which don't have special features (or even, in some cases, chapter menus). We decided to put in an order for the library's full version, and were pleased to see that (a) most branches did have a copy, even before the Oscar buzz, and (b) most of those were in circulation, meaning that a good sample of Erie County is receptive to a film celebrating the best (and most dysfunctional) of gay marriage.

Right, I'm well and truly tired. Lovely evenings to all.
