My one court hearing today was in the same state court building where they're trying the murder case against Muzzammil "Mo" Hassan, charged with decapitating his wife.

The judge in my case told me that the 16-member jury in Mo's case (including four alternates), which took over a week to install, lost three of its members over the weekend due to leaked news accounts.

Which means they're just two french fries short of a happy meal further DQs short of a mistrial.

Since I don't do criminal work, I asked him: "You mean they're not sequestered?"

"No," he answered. "We only do that once they're charged and go off to deliberate."

Methinks either a larger jury pool, or a more secure sequestration policy given the high profile of the case, would've been appropriate.

No idea how I did in my own case.

Other side came in at the last minute, just like they did last month, with stuff I hadn't seen or expected.

I hate when that happens.

Any idea whose film this is?

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] headbanger118:)

With whom I often disagree, but who always comes out of those disagreements with respect and admiration in my eyes.

Our leaders could learn from us:)
