I'm going to get a decent night's sleep.  Every night this week has been the same- a random waking in the 1:30-to-3:00 a.m. range (pee, dog, wind outside) leads to hours of wakies.  I've no idea why. Work's going okay, fam is good, bills are all paid, I'm getting daily exercise. Yeah, I think about stuff in those lying-awake moments, but nothing anxiety-riddling or overwhelming.

We have some OTC sleep aid pills- all herbalish stuff. Eleanor says they help when she gets this way in the wee smalls. So when the 2-ish waking came and before the wheels really started turning, I took one. It helped; I was groggy and near dreams by 3:30....

which was just in time for some idiot to set off the fax machine at 3:40. Needless to say, I've been up ever since.

Today shouldn't be too bad. I've got a judge pushing to get settlement documents in before a trial in a case we've already settled and called off, but he's threatening to make us proceed if it's not all submitted this morning. So there's that- and one other deadline, and a meeting back here before the weekend.

Maybe I'll get some sleep before THAT begins.

Yes, I keep my fax and ringers off because it never fails that some idiot will call or fax out of the blue.

Yeah, that bad boy's going off every night now. Only problem will be me forgetting to turn it back on, but since the fax is part of the printer/scanner, I'm usually using it actively before too long most mornings.

I usually sleep like a baby, fussing and crying and soiling myself.

Seriously, sleep generally comes easy. I'm a supine reader, but after decades of reading before bedtime, the printed page is practically the equivalent of knockout drops.

But in the rare case it doesn't work, hey, at least I'm reading a good book.

Hope you have a better night's sleep tonight.

It's enough to make me wonder if I'm turning into one of those mythical "short sleepers." I had a high school friend whose father suddenly stopped needing more than about 4 hours a night- he'd just night-owl through Carson and then get up at 4:30 or so with no ill effects.
