I could continue the trend of bitching/moaning/whining my way through 2014 today, since Day 3 gave me as much ammo as 1 and 2.  Clients were crap, opponents were worse, I lost a flash drive with potentially sensitive information at risk, and it's colder than a witch's you-know-what.

But. Can't live without the clients or the opponents; the flash drive almost certainly is gurgled to its death in a snowbank someplace (and I've changed the only most sensitive information anyone could access from it even if they did); it's BUFFALO, for crysake, and we're used to this weather, and today was sunny and bright.  So instead I present my first, if belated, contribution to the Thankful Thursdays series that my expatriate Noo Yawkah friend greenquotebook has been doing for awhile. It keeps the Debbie Downerish tendencies at bay and makes you focus on the good stuff, of which there is always plenty:

* Most and especially, I am thankful for over 24 hours of quality time with our daughter. Today's her 22nd birthday, and she wanted to come home for it, but Cameron had to work today, so I volunteered to bring her in a day early, along with over a week's worth of their wash (piled up not on general college student principles but because their laundry room has been disabled all week).  Even though the roads were snowy and slippery yesterday, we took it slow and careful, minding the idiots who didn't who were largely inhabiting ditches and medians, and made it home with no trouble. It was a joy just talking with her about school, work, life in general, Sherlock (::reseals lips::) and anything and everything else. This morning, she needed to renew her driver's license, so I took her to the DMV and made her eight years of licensure one of her pressies; we then went to a nearby old-home family diner (named Emily's, of all things, which produced our breakfast and her eventual lunch); and she also worked in an ice-skating visit to a high school friend and a few other errands in my car before Cam got here moments ago.

* While we saw many crazy drivers' stupidity in yesterday's snowy late afternoon, none of them beat what I saw in the paper from today's much sunnier and drier conditions:

That's a Mercy Flight chopper, which, blessedly, did not fall from the sky, but rather from the back of a truck carrying it from the airport earlier today.  Nobody was hurt, but the gackablackas were mammoth in both directions, none of them involving any of us.

* The Fickle Finger of First is doing much better. I'm down to a double Bandaid to wrap it and the eventual scar is already setting in nicely. But I picked the right finger for it; I already have one from a 12th grade industrial accident on that finger's print, so this just adds to the collection.

* Got to the gym for the first time in 2014. Nothing broke, pulled or strained. Continued reading 2014 Book #2, to be posted on Goodreads when I get through the remaining 60-ish percent of it.

* (This is an actual Thankful Thursday event.) With slower travels yesterday, got to listen to more of my favorite stuff on WRUR, including this tune from Richard Thompson, which is apparently a cover of a song originally done by, um, somebody else (and sorry about the damn inevitable pre-ad):

* And for all of you, for reading, commenting, just being. You make the promise of the next 362 days even more promising:)

That Mercy Flight image is amazing, thanks for sharing. I feel fortunate to have gotten out of Buffalo while I could, despite all the delays.

By the way, I found your journal via the friendsfriends page on LJ via tilia_tomentosa. I tried commenting there, but you've got commenting set to friends only.

I fell madly in love with Richard Thompson after hearing "Cold Kisses," an absolutely creepy song about waiting for your girlfriend to leave to you can go through her things to find out how you measure up against her previous boyfriend. I've got the "Watching in the Dark" album and "Action-Packed," but it looks like I need more. Thanks for sharing this.

Embeddy seems to be broky, so I added a linky.

I have to get going myself, exercise-wise. After seeing my 10 year old grand-nephew over the holidays I realize now that I don't have any stamina. LOL!
