A friend of ours dropped off a CBD-based product to help Eleanor through some of her pain relief.  I asked if this was now a new market for Doordash, and that got us spitballing about what options might become available once our fair state finally issues licenses for the theoretically now-legal dispensaries for weed and edibles and such.  Doordash sounded, I don't know, maybe a little too speedy for the products, but then the brilliant idea hit me:

I haven't bought the domain name yet, but it's tempting, man;)

Another fast time from the past week: mine.

It’s actually a tie of a previous personal record, but I never believed the previous time in 2019 was for a mile. Just as important was just finishing, since last try was back in August when I came up lame in the final 30. Never dropped below 5 miles an hour, averaged just over 5 and a half to bring it in just under the wire. Jenny, who I'd never had as a coach before, came over to make sure I was okay. Not only was I, once again I wound up at the top of my age bracket for the event through my Very Effective Strategy of being the only one in it;)

Joel S (no relation) obviously has this figured out in the 40s age group, too.

The biggest "fast" of the week was the week. For the first full workweek of 2023, it went by in a blinding flash.  Not a lot of court, only one day of travel, but I got to this afternoon and went, wow, where'd THAT go? I have one last work errand to run before the end of the day tomorrow, but then we're off Monday and will see how fast four days go after that.

----

A new, if not fast, sight in Wegmans last night:

So these are the new gizmos they’re trying out in place of the EZ Scan program that cost them millions in stolen merch and paybacks to disappointed users. That one just required a phone download to scan the codes without any verification beyond basic trust; I’m guessing these carts use a combination of weighing and camera technology to catch the thieves.

----

Finally, an odd mix of film, health and an overnight report of DEATH:

The other night, we watched a movie modestly called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which Nicolas Cage plays himself. Sort of. Written before he even agreed to star in it, it's a meta-filled romp through his own Hollywood past and the bullshit of Hollywood present, where he is recruited by the CIA to solve an international kidnapping plot, save the world, get the girl and become BFFs with the Mandorian. Or something.  It takes some acclimation, but it's great fun.

Cage then re-entered the news after we finished, when we learned of the death of his ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley. Only 54 and not in reported bad health, she was fallen by a heart attack leaving one of her kids by a marriage earlier than that to Cage (or to Jacko), and by her mother Priscilla.

That wasn't the only medical news of the day, though. I will spare details, which haven't all been determined anyway, but my sister called yesterday to tell me she's been diagnosed with a condition that was our father's terminal condition going on 40 years ago. It's not hereditary, at least not conclusively so, but the coincidence, if it is that, is strange. She's doing, or will, everything doable to manage it, but it's just one more reason to keep the stove going in the woodshed for taking 2023 out there for not behaving itself in the first few weeks of this year.

At least the condition doesn't result in pain, so she should be okay even if I don't get DoorStagger up and running....

Oh I am sorry for your sister! I hope by now the docs are able to make it non-fatal.

I stay up crazy late, so I read that Lisa Marie Presley had died. I read it was cardiac arrest, and yes, awfully young. I hear she had 2 kids by her first husband, and twin girls with her last husband who will be only 14 (Wikipedia has their names, birth date, and birth weight, ugh, I am doubly sad for them).

Good to hear from you, budding peddler! :D Speaking of that movie, I'm looking forward to seeing Pedro Pascal as Joel in The Last of Us tomorrow. :D Loved him as The Mandalorian!

Lisa Marie Presley, wow--I JUST was switching channels the other night and saw Austin Butler speaking at the Golden Globes, thanking her for treating him like family and praising Elvis. They panned to her in the audience and now she's gone. Just wow.

Sorry about your sis, too. :(

Oh WOW
