Most of today's annoyances were minor and injury-free. I got the time of a closing wrong, which kinda gummed up the morning, but was done with it before the actual scheduled time for it without any problem. Tomorrow I have to drive back to where the clients live, which is close to a couple of other clients I could stand to visit, so that will work out.

Hopefully, though, the idiots on the highways will barricade themselves in their homes for once.

This rental is from a company best known for its starships- and boy do they work you. You want the collision damage waiver, don't you? (Hellz to the no.) Care to buy your tank of gas below retail in advance? (I'll be curious to see if they then charge sales tax on it which will bring it right back up to the approximate current pump price.) And, oh, your car was totaled? We sell our off-rent vehicles, yaknow....

Their local sales office called about THAT this afternoon, and I will look at what they've got- if only for shits and giggles. They promise to keep it low-pressure, but incredibly smooth if I do buy something from them, taking care of the registration transfer and the rental end all in one happy transaction.

I know I won't mind getting out of this Mafia Staff Car-

- even though it's almost as smart as Iggy, with a "miles until empty" gauge and onboard diagnostics and- get this- Sirius/XM satellite radio. Not that I have any idea what, exactly, is ON such radio- other than Howard Stern, who is his own "music type" category, and I have no interest in Babba Booey Boy, thanks. If you have any favourite stations, let me know.

Failing that, I may just connect a foghorn to the damn thing- because as I was running one last errand at day's end, didn't some parking-lot asshat come within MILLIMETERS of backing out of a parking space and into my front left side? I honked that horn like kingdom come, and they retreated just in time, but shit, people- I do not need this right now.

We're off shortly to a preview of Philhomena- and will actually be asked to do studio surveys about it. Stay tuned; I just don't know what Sirius channel to stay tuned to.

We occasionally enjoy

We occasionally enjoy Radio Paradise but occasionally the time difference (for us) can lead to overly-energetic music first thing in the morning...

XM channel 82, Radio Classics. Fibber McGee, George & Gracie, Lum & Abner, Bob Hope, lots of detective serials, it is WONDERFUL. I spend my commute time immersed in 30s, 40s and 50s radio programs.

If you like that kind of thing, you should check out WRVO at night:

I caught one of these coming back from a Syracuse concert earlier this year, and it wasn't one of the famous old-timey series I'd heard of, but was just as creepy. Sure kept me awake in the wee's as I headed west.
