I do go to conferences (live or Zoom), and I actually manage to usually learn somethin' each time (not much, but something). I stopped going to the big ones out of town, because frankly, half the speakers are the same at all the conferences wherever you go, and if different speakers, still same facts, so why spend lots of time and money for the same result.
As for the student loan nonsense, Socialists have never turned me against Capitalism, but the Capitalists are very close to doing so. Most of my med school "loans" were "loaning" my body and time to the military, which I don't regret, but the agree the system is absurd.
