Selling ice in the wintertime. Or not.

captainsblogSomething rather amazing happened in Buffalo, New York this week:
It snowed. Enough to stick, even to make travel a little slick for a few hours. Not enough, though, for our fully paid-up snowplow contractor to make a stop by and shovel out our driveway.
By this afternoon, it was pretty much all gone again, and the projected temps for the next several days are (in F):
It's not even so much how high the highs are; it's the lows not going much below freezing, and all of them at least partly sunny days (and thus clear nights with little or no cloud cover to hold in the heat).
This is sure looking and feeling weird. And wherever there is snow in the country other than around here, it seems it's fairly sudden and extremely extreme.
Yet every plausible Republican candidate for president denies that there's anything unusual going on. Even the few who once did have been beaten into repentance. And you just know that the first time we DO get some significant snowfall in Western New York in the dead of winter, SOMEBODY is gonna broadcast, or post, some tripe about "Where's your global warming NOW, Al Gore?"
It's on my front lawn, is where. Plus, from what I remember of my 9th grade earth science, it's not going to be UNDER my front lawn, as the usual wintertime surplus-building of ground water, from the falling and melting of all that precip, just isn't happening. That heightens the chance of drought, and given the luck Rick Perry has had praying THAT away, I suspect we'll soon be singing "It's beginning to look a lot like Dust Bowl."
