....of entertainment.

Monday night, Eleanor wasn't much up to watching anything, so she ceded the entertainment system and I went with the action blockbuster with Chris Pratt that Amazon has been Prime-ing the pump to get me to watch. So I gave it almost two hours of my life I'll never get back.  It would have been over two, but I just started fast-forwarding through the action scenes with the naughty bug-eyed monsters.  Yeah, they're among the many, um, homages they come up with throughout the film. The prime entertainment turned out to be counting them. Which I did.... in song.... even though it turned out NOT to be one of my Favorite Things:

Ridley Scott monsters and redshirted Trekkies,
Kids save the planet like Galaxy Questies,
Woman tells hero he's their "only hope,"
These are just some of Tomorrow War's tropes!

Quantum Leap time travel- screen getting bluer,
Anyone?  anyone? riffing on Bueller
Nevers-like good guys left hanging from ropes,
These are still more of Tomorrow War's tropes!

But Chris Pratt's there, he gets punchlines,
And he's kind of cute,
But even surrounded by all of these tropes
He didn't get one.... for.... Groot!

So it only seemed fair that last night, after I'd had a long Rochester day and she'd had a long bathroom-bashing one, that I cede the controls back. The Netflix DVD laying round was this one:

Written and directed by Wim Wenders, of Wings of Desire and other beloved films, it's a documentary about the craft of German choreographer Pina Bausch.  I have no background in ballet or modern dance, but it didn't matter; the performances, mostly done specifically for this film not long after the company learned of Pina's death from cancer in 2009, it captivates even a n00b. The sets, the music, the love displayed- and not a single action scene with assault weapons.

----

Other things happened before, during and after those viewings, but today was a long day as well, and I just got interrupted for an emergency Windows update to cover a naughty hack that [personal profile] thewayne tipped me off to, so we'll be back with those.
