Predictive text sucks. Portals, too.
Jun. 11th, 2021 08:43 pmPredictive text is not too easy to read but I can’t remember how much longer it is going to work on the other side of the page so I don’t know what to say about that.
(Don't ask me. Siri wrote it.)
Better her than me. Two days running, I actually got an early post in here cheering about how well things were going. Wednesday, it was patting myself on the back for getting my gym membership "paid for" this month by my health insurance Wellness Card. We saw how well THAT went. I then ended that very early-for-me entry from yesterday, which began with me being down over that experience, with the rampantly premature prediction that
the 24 hour window of Downs seems to be closing. I just finished a phone court hearing where the judge and client were doing equal jobs of driving me crazy. I now have an outside appointment, a phone conference, and finally a workout which, indeed, did not cost me anything until the wellness card shows up.
That posted at 2:05. The outside appointment was delayed until almost 3:30 as I tried printing a document to bring to the meeting. This was because, although I'd previously conquered reconnecting my laptop to the Internet at the office, that did not reconnect it to my own printer. Or any other printer in the office. It wasn't until today that I discovered the new wifi network name and password have to be programmed into the printer, using an admin account that has a password you'd expect to see on your luggage. I finally got it printed usingstone knives and bearskins a USB stick, ran over for a 10 minute appointment that took close to half an hour, but still had time to begin my 3:30 phone conference on time, albeit from the front seat of my car. I was connected through the car audio, completely hands free, had plenty of time to talk and make it to my one other stop before working out, when....
somebody decided to plow into the back of my Smart car.
----
I was waiting to make a right turn on red at a fairly deadly corner. Main Street meets the 90 and 290 plus the secondary avenue I was turning right from, and one does not jump that redness unless it's quite clear. Unfortunately, not turning on the red light also has its consequences. I pushed the "end call" button, turned on the light that was now green, and motioned my new friend to meet me, which she did.
She thought I'd begun my turn. Huh- that would not have been consistent with my foot on the brake and standing still. She was also late for a doctor's appointment. She was very contrite. All I could see was some bumpage in the bumper-

- mostly in the vicinity of my beloved Buzzo bumper sticker. The Big B at the beginning was unscathed, but some scrapes to the first Z and a big new bumpus under and next to the O. It didn't affect how the car drove, so my biggest sad was knowing I'll need to replace that sticker, along with the others back there-

- but I think they're all replaceable or transferable.
We exchanged ID and insurance info, I calmed her down just as I calmed down the kid who took out Eleanor's windshield over the winter, they got through the rest of their call without me and I made it to the workout on time:) Speedy's husband called later that evening and promised recompense. I told him I thought it would be just the bumper, but I wanted to check with our mechanic.
And did, at 8 this morning. Sure enough, just the bumper- but. Tell the guy to expect to replace it with an all new original manufacturer part from Mercedes, and that they ain't cheap. I did. He seemed cool with it. He even owned a Smart car once. I make friends in the strangest places.

Since we were in its general vicinity, and since with all the afternoon agitas yesterday I never got Pepper out for walkies, I gave her a makeup trip to the dog park. She proceeded to do what she does: roam-

- mooch for treats off random strangers-

- and of course play with pups who are almost as cute as she is-

Then it was back to work, where I futzed with yet another round of Let's Fix The Internet that at least got me able to print again from my PC to my printer, which of course chose this cluster of a day to set off the dreaded message of LOOOOWWWWWWW TONER! (new one ordered and on the way). I still can't scan in the other direction over the air, so I'm back to sneakernetting using a USB stick until I can figure out how I did it the last time. Probably by changing a setting on the control panel that you access on the PC using the printer's IP address- which also hasn't been accessible for two days.
Or maybe I'll just bang the rocks together.
Meanwhile, three different Chapter 13 clients came in between noonish and 4. All of them have been "in progress" for more than two years and at least one of them closer to three, and yet all chose this week for OMGOMGOMGINEEDITNOWWWWW. One's already filed an "emergency petition" but has only until Tuesday to complete the balance of the paperwork usually filed right at the start. A second is probably closer than the others to being ready. But then there's the guy who, when I looked at his pay stubs and saw he works for a kitchen and bath company, my heart went aflutter and I asked, so, what do you do over there?
He does bathroom rebuilds from floor to ceiling, is what he does. I described our weird situation, and he may be able, literally, to fill in the holes of our planning process. This is where I would have said things were looking up.
I don't do that anymore.

Then there's the undeniably good news conveyed to Eleanor by our PA the other day- that my various tests and ultrapokes all came out fine and I'm in damn good health. Only thing is, it'd be nice if I could see this myself.
Like many practices, our doctor and PA have an online portal. They encourage its use, but gently. Some of the big multidisciplinary medical practices around here have bugged the shit out of one or the other of us about signing up for them. For a while, a lot of them were pushing an areawide one called HEALTHeLINK, but that promotional push seems to have faded as everyone's gone their own ways with their own.
Ours was easy to sign up for, but in terms of content? A too-sweet mixture of vanilla and stupid.
You can see your Continuity of Care Document, which gave me this as its recommendations:
-Annual dental exams -Regular use of sunscreen and seatbelts -Recommend 30 min of exercise 3-4 times per week -
Recommend smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors -Recommend annual flu vaccine -Routine labs ordered -
Colonoscopy due, referred to Dr. Hodge/Schratz -Follow up annually
No, Kurt Vonnegut did not write that. Nor did anybody write about specifics from the ultrasound. Supposedly I was emailed an interpretation of the 400 shots they sent out to One Hour Photo, but I never got it, and three messages through the portal failed to produce it. But since it was apparently all good, I am not going to tie myself up in interknots over reading something I can't read when the wifi's down, anyway.
(Oh, and the colonoscopy? It had been scheduled for August 20. They called today to push it back three weeks. Not even the proctologist wants to be looking at my ass.)
I'd like to say it will go fine. But, per above, I shall not.

Stone knives and bear skins!
Date: 2021-06-12 11:20 am (UTC)Yesterday I was trying to set up our camera software on the back desk at the main office--a local installer wired cameras outside for us so we can view the dog yards and the parking lot. Problem is, their instructions might as well be written in Japanese--and I'm usually pretty savvy with this stuff. So now I have to call camera guy to come and do it. Ugh.
Sorry to read about your car, but glad you're ok. Only accident I've had so far was yoinking my driver's side mirror off my old Honda Civic while backing out of our garage in Ohio one sleepy morning. One winter I thought sure I was going to slide on the ice right into a stop sign 30 feet from our house--but my right front tire slipped neatly along the curb and I missed it by an inch or so. Nail biting...
The term agita takes me instantly back to watching The Doberman Gang, years ago! :) Did you ever see it?
It IS funny how people come your way in the oddest of circumstances sometimes just as you need them. That has happened SO many times in our business. :)
See you at writer's group later? :) Hope so!
Re: Stone knives and bear skins!
Date: 2021-06-12 11:48 am (UTC)Also had a good car moment yesterday, but I'm saving that for a post.
Wasn't Doberman Gang one of those Dean Jones Dark Age of Disney films? I remember that but didn't see it, or probably any of them.
Hoping to get there. I have 39 chapters of Chapter 13s to work on, but I can do that and listen at the same time,
