It's now under ♫Twenty twenty twenty four hours to goooo, Trump needs to be sedated
Nothing to do, nowhere to goooo-oh....♫

I saw the Ramones once- a New Years Eve show at a Long Island club- and their magnum opus of cinema is now one of the extras that comes with HBO. Yet the best old-school news of the day was from another channel: Disney Plus is bringing back the entire back catalog of the original 1970s Muppet Show.

It's about time they went back in time. Disney has tried any number of reboots of the Felt Franchise since taking it over from the Jim Henson family, including some films and at least two more tries at network television. None of them really worked; whether because of the new generation of puppeteers or the writers messing with the established dynamics of the characters, I went in with hi-ho hopes and came out sounding like Statler, or maybe Waldorf.  Better they just rerun what they know to have worked.  Now if only they can also bring back The Jim Henson Hour reruns; they were much more creative, with Jim himself appearing prominently, and its behind-the-scenes episode is one of the best hours of television I've ever seen. (Catch it while you can; the copyright police routinely take it down.)

Another series with serious looking back is the Martin Scorcese documentary series on Netflix called Pretend It's A City, focusing on Fran Lebowitz and her lifelong love affair with Manhattan.  It switches among archival footage from the 70s and further back; other appearances of Fran in Q&As or on talk shows; and made-for-the-series talks between her and Scorcese about her observations on life in that one particular city.  There's a funny discussion about whether everything holds up if you just "rerun what they know to have worked," in an interview she once did with Spike Lee. He argues that Michael Jordan is as timeless a performer as any actor or musician, to which Fran counters, in essence, How can a basketball game be as timeless as a film or concert? Isn't the point and pleasure of basketball in not knowing, while you're watching it, who's going to win the game?

He might not be the best guy to ask that of, given how closely he follows the Knicks;)

We've watched very little of the real-time news this week, just getting occasional reports of America getting ready to take out the trash tomorrow.  I will be on the road for most of the day, but come noontime, I will listen or watch, depending on where I am, to the reins of power being given to a team that can be trusted.

And FPT can go bork bork bork himself.
