Failin' until the bitter end.

captainsblogThe last workday of 2011 confirmed it as a bad actor. From slightly oversleeping until past 9, to rushing to get stuff left over from yesterday to a client (and thereby saving the older of two alternate documents, instantly and irretrievably losing four hours worth of work- blessedly backed up in paper form), to the 11:00 client I was rushing to meet not showing up till well past 11:30, to a final-workday payment not showing up and requiring a massive Curly Shuffle to get things right, to getting lost on the way to my last appointment of the year.
That went okay, though, and I then headed to the gym. First, though, I stopped at home for one last shot at finding my earbuds. They're electric blue and almost impossible to mislay, but I managed it, and final turnouts of car, office and TV area all came up empty. At home, I grabbed Eleanor's (an equally brilliant green color), wrapped them round the phone, changed at the gym, put the headphones in my pocket, spent 20 unsuccessful Good Samaritan minutes trying to help a guy hack his Master padlock which he'd forgotten the combination to (the instructions are here, but it's harder with an iPhone screen and with the lock on an actual locker), picked an elliptical, and pulled out the earbuds....
which proved to be wrapped around my missing ones, which had spent the previous 72 hours stuck in that very pocket. Which I never checked, because, duh, I WAS MISSING THEM. I'd checked every other pocket- suit, coat, shirt, jean- but not the ones where they were right under my, um, not my noses.
Four miles and a red face later, I'm home. Possibly for the last entry of the year.
About the only bright spot of this exact day? I got word that one of my dearest online Friends is getting married:) This follows on finding out a few months earlier that an even older and just as dear one had also just gotten engaged. Both have chosen beaus with first names matching the last names of major characters from 20th century German war movies. So if any of you grrls are looking, I'd lay good odds on dudes with first names of Hogan, Kaiser, Enigma, and any redheads you meet named Baron;)
