Some jokes never get old....

That's a screengrab from a 1944 Bugs Bunny short.  The whole thing can be seen clicking this:

(I know, that rather sucks, because it's somebody taking a video of it off their TV. That's the only Youtube of the full cartoon that I can find except an official Warner Brothers one, which demands payment for a 75 year old video.  Dailymotion, which I can't embed, has a better version, here.)

Though I quote Bugs near daily for one reason or another, it's unusual for two totally different references to come from the same short- but today, they did.

The censored word in that, as he tells you quite loudly, is, STINK YOU FOOL, STINK!!!!!  Eleanor's birthday eve and day had been decidedly non-stinky until our final waking hour of it last night.  Friday night, we tried a new-to-us Trattoria place on Main near the village. Nice enough, but we still prefer the small set of them on Sheridan and in North Buffalo.  Then, yesterday, there was cleanup (I decluttered a ton of obsolete audio-video equipment moved down the hall when our new living room entertainment set arrived last year), there was travel (to an art show of a friend, then to our favorite city "meating place" for ribs and "flap" meat), and finally there was the cooking and eating of said ribs and takeout desserts from said small set of trattorias.

And then the dog went outside.  We heard (barks), we saw (dog at door), and then, we smelled. Oh, how we smelled.  A Warner Brothers character was out there, and it wasn't Bugs:

I wasn't sure at first that she'd been skunked- it sure smelled it outside, and Pepper proceeded in to roll around on every cushiony surface she could jump on, but she smelled a different kind of bad- more metallic than stinky weed-like.  Still, it was stinking up everything she touched, and she was in obvious distress, so Eleanor stripped the bed where she'd landed and I got her in the bathtub.  There was less to it after that- even Zoey came in and slept next to us, she with a much more sensitive schnozz than I- but I still had to air out my car after the dog park run this morning and there's still a slight hint of something in the air inside, everything being sealed up due to the high-humidity heat outside the past few days.  Things then compounded when I went to launder everything: our downstairs laundry tubs, never Speedy Gonzales in the best of times, were all full up from a previous load and no amount of plunging or Drano-bombing was doing hardly anything. So I bailed the sinks and called the plumber for tomorrow.

----

The cat who slept next to us doesn't stink.  But she did inspire a reference from the same cartoon.

Eleanor reported Zoey was in need of a mani-pedi, so I brought out the clippers.  This usually sweet adorable cat turns into a raving maniac when you try to cut her claws, so usually I wrap her in a bath towel. But many of these were in the wash, and right next to my operating table chair, I saw an acceptable substitute: the bandana Petco had placed on Pepper when they groomed her two weekends back.  And thus, Zoey adopted Bugs's alter ego from the short: I give you....

The Masked Marauder!

(Don't worry, it was on her for all of 30 seconds, including the picture.)

----

Busy week ahead.  I prepped a number of quick-and-easy work projects so I can just send them out tomorrow; I'm downtown all morning for two different courts. Tuesday I'm away all day, and somewhere between that I need to submit responses to Mister Last Minute from last week on a hearing scheduled out of town for Thursday.  Plus a plumber, and making sure our mechanic can fix the idiot light problem (the price of the car wash went up another 10 bucks when I realized Mercedes ripped off a mirror attachment I'd bought for the car), and getting my malpractice insurance renewed before the end of the month, and so and so and so and so and so....

But life, overall, doesn't stink;)

Bugs and all the older cartoons really were much funnier and better than the current crop. I think part of why I feel that, is because they have levels and levels, including things that only the adults actually get. Also, Rocky & Bulwinkle aren't quite as funny since the end of the Cold War.
