Assorted Unsolved Mysteries
Feb. 22nd, 2019 10:30 pmThis week's over. Nothing mysterious about that. My debit card is right where it belongs, my car is seemingly sound, the weather's been relatively quiet for most of the week, and nothing bad's predicted until Sunday, when close-to-hurricane winds are threatened. For Buffalo. And it just snowed in Las Vegas. Go team.
The week brought its share of unknowns, though. The condition my condition is in, for one. The massive progress I reported on the other day? Hasn't relapsed to where it was, but today I felt worse than I did the day before. Nothing major- only one instance of measurable twinge- but it's still there, which I would much prefer it not be. Maybe it's because I slowed my preventives yesterday- fewer Ibuprofens, less cran-pom juice, and even a whole day-end 60 minute workout. I did fine with it (once my damn heart monitor decided to start recording:P), but I decided to do it specifically because my spies told me it had mostly upper-body weight exercises and very little rowing. I felt no pain after it ( at least no more than usual), but the non-improvement today could've been in part because of it. So today, I upped my meds and liquids (okay, a few wine glasses since 8 p.m.;), and things seem better now.
Today brought a deposition, a pretrial proceeding which I hate. The witness had begged out of two prior scheduled appearances, this one to accommodate his hiring a lawyer who he did not hire, and I wound up kicking him out, with full reservation of rights, after barely 40 minutes because he didn't come with who and what he'd agreed to after the first aborted appearance. Now it's up to the judge to decide whether he can be penalized for his intransigence.
That leaves only the trivial things.

This week brought the return of the Learned League contests, in which I was a comped rookie last year but was brought back (after payment of a nominal annual fee) in their third-highest class for my second go. The questions are all the same from the top to the rookiest league, but the questions in my first three rounds have been brutal. I was 1-1 after two rounds, and am awaiting my score from round 3, which will be higher than I'd have guessed (OMG I got a fashion question right!) but it will ultimately depend on how well my round 3 opponent (also a UB grad) does with the same evil questions.
Then there's the trivia that doesn't involve actual contests. Many of the friends I made in AOL days still communicate, and occasionally post something triviaish- as it was when this post(er) showed up earlier this week:

This turns out to be a contest-submitted artwork for a NYC-based fan convention of Broadway shows, from back in 2017. There are probably 100 or more "triviots" from our AOL experience who still keep in touch one way or another, and among them (okay, us), we figured out most of the plays referenced in this:
Aladdin
Book of Mormon
Chicago (maybe? My guess was Chorus Line)
Dreamgirls
Evita
Fun Home
Gypsy
Hamilton
Into the Woods
Jersey Boys
Kinky Boots
Lion King
Music Man
Newsies
Oklahoma
{ }
Avenue Q
Rent
Singing in the Rain
Thoroughly Modern Millie (not 100% sure on this one)
Urinetown
Victor/Victoria
Wicked
Xanadu
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Zorba the Greek
Among us, we got (I'm guessing) 25 out of 26, but the P icon baffled everybody. Pippin? The Prom? Pajama Game?
The Producers? Promises, Promises? Pretty Woman? (These are stage shows, remember.)
I put my Mad Skillz to work and found the artist who designed the poster for the 2017 con. I'm waiting for the answer key; it may take further emails, or even a purchase offer or two for the poster, but we will get this solved, one way or another:)

Date: 2019-02-24 03:01 pm (UTC)That having been said, I doubt I could have gotten most of them, but I'm proud that I did recognize a few. Don't know about the "P" either, but if you have the time, energy, and interest, you could wade through this list:
