Thirty more days hath December, give or take a few remaining hours tonight.  We're both home and chillin', after one of the easier days I've had all week.  The previous ones weren't that busy- court appearances all resolved or postponed, one deposition canceled and a second much shortened, and only one day on the road- but the computer stuff was draining and demoralizing.  After my last two full days of doing without and getting the new laptop set up as far as I could through Wednesday night, I hit a bunch of roadblocks yesterday.

Soon as I got in the office here, my email, fine the day before, simply stopped working; Outlook would open and then promptly crashed each time, requiring a series of 10-to-20-minute timeouts while it "repaired" the improperly closed folders.  Ultimately, I ran a Microsoft Office repair on the software, but I suspect the culprit was the second-morning attempt by McAfee to horn its way into its free (for now) antivirus subscription.  I killed it dead and have not had email problems since.

It then took the rest of the day yesterday to get full connectivity to my primary printer/scanner, and most of that consisted of repeated failures by me to figure out the problems alone.  The device is a rather ancient Xerox copier with limited wireless functions, and by mid-afternoon, I had surrendered and put in a (not cheap) service call. The guy who showed up seemed unfamiliar with much of my ancient software, but he ultimately got all trays properly configured and the scanner able to send to this laptop's hard drive.

All of this was going on with other stresses in the office. The co-worker's client who caused the cupcake emergency the day before was back on the phone yesterday, giving people grief there and elsewhere, some of whom passed it right back onto our end.  Ultimately, the guy got his deals done, and in person, he was what my mother would have referred to as "nice as pie."

Oh, and someone possibly ate one of the houses I stuck in the cupcakes.  That would give new meaning to the term "final walk-through."

----

When this morning dawned a new month, I had a suddenly free morning to get caught up on things, when its originally scheduled court appearance got put off.  I used the time productively, now that I have technology to do so with- getting several delayed documents into and out of production, scheduling some meetings for next week, and receiving/following through on authorizations to settle one case and begin two new ones.  Another of my co-workers brought in pizza for the office for lunch- a nice and needed gesture after how the week had gone for everyone- and we got away from the usual stress and mostly shared stories about Terrible Twos We Have Known (I had the fewest, at least that I could remember).  I got out in time to work in a workout, and we have plans for more film-age both in and out of the house in the coming days.

----

Speaking of "out of the house," the news from the larger world has been mixed. Congress is about to go off the rails on a train wreck of a tax bill that will hurt us personally by thousands over the next several years and even more in a decade.  On the other hand, the Michael Flynn guilty plea moves the Cheeto one step closer to being out of power.

Still quiet on the /mysterious bit from the other day, but suffice it, it's good for someone we really love.
