Prior Restraint
Jul. 30th, 2013 01:35 pmZoey's been a real PITA in recent days. We've been trying to keep her inside, because she refuses to keep a collar on her and thus is anonymous to the world when she does go out; she's developed a nasty habit of killing and trying to kill things when she's out and about; and we've caught any number of both wounds and possible tiny livestock on her when she was the loser of such fights.
Still, it's hard. Tasha now takes a good long time to go out either door to the back yard, and Zo is a little firecracker, shooting out when we're being patient with the dog, or loaded up with things for the patio, or just distracted. Each of the last two nights, she's defeated our best efforts, and it took hours to get her back in.
So now I'm pissed, and I've raised the stakes. We have an extra breakaway collar from the last set of two we bought. It has no tag on it for her as of yet, but it does have something else attached to it now: a good-sized kitty leash. The idea is to slow her down on the way out, and to make it easier to catch her when she first does go out.
And she is pissed about it.
We'll take it off her when we go to sleep, and anytime we're both out of the house, but for now it seems the only way to keep her in line.
