I had three things I needed to do in Rochester today, of which I accomplished exactly one. But no matter; friends were coming north to see their son in his solo recital at the end of an Eastman School of Music summer program for a variety of vocal and instrumental high school musicians.

Ross was up here for three weeks. I was his emergency contact; fortunately for him, our usual entanglements with Murphy's Law didn't kick in and we didn't need to see him until today. Clients kept me relatively verklempt until about the last second before a needed depature to get to the Eastman by 2,  but fates intervened and I learned that Ross was last on the program, so I rolled in a bit past 2:15. There were a dozen or so ahead of him, including pianists, flautists, at least one marimba player, a range of sopranos (Tony and Carmela not among them), and, among the various pieces of brass, were the final two by Ross:

(totally unauthorised photo by Mom; her son was clearly the most comfortable on stage of the three performing that instrument, and he ended his two-movement piece with a jaunty flip of his instrument that will hold him in good stead when he heads off to drum major camp in Amherst, Mass later this weekend)

(also, those are not my heads;)

----

We then paused outside for a shot of the happy 'rents as Ross cleared out his dorm stuff:

(Sharon's photos have been Wiki'd, juried and are generally five orders of magnitude above mine, but I can do one thing she can't: stand on the other side of a camera and shoot her;)

We then headed off to dinner, where she returned the favor with one of the honored guest and, well, me:

Yes, we're back at the Dino; don't judge. (I ordered something different, for once;)

I then dropped them off at dorm and hotel and headed home, all of us hoping that the Mets will finish their sweep of their division rivals (still tied top nine as of this moment in Game Two); they'll be watching our AA affiliate in Binghamton this time tomorrow, then heading northeast to Marching Band Camp the next morning.

Speaking of Binghamton, I will be passing through there next Thursday:)  My appearance at the Methodist prayer vigil on the afternoon of August 1st is confirmed, and after that night I will head south to Baltimore for a sci-fi con and meetups with any friends in 301 or 410 who may be around on Friday night and Saturday. Sunday may involve a stop in Philly, but so far the town is cleared out for the weekend, so I may just make it back at ass-crack on Saturday night.
