We just passed our third day with temperatures spiking toward or past 90F. That's hardly the brutality of triple-digit weeks in the desert west, but for us, it's highly unusual. Our average for 90-degree days is three a year, not week, and we've never broken 100 at the airport (which is stupid, because I don't know anyone who lives at the airport). Still. This is Not Normal.  Local friends without AC have been complaining about oppressive sleeping conditions; those with, report late-night blackouts as all those units crank into the night.

Me? I've spent most of the past three days indoors, in comfort, but the shock of going Out In It is striking. The next two days will bring probably two Rochester trips (where, if anything, it's even hotter), the second ending at a Great Big Sea/Carbon Leaf concert with the kids meeting up with me- at an outdoor site that is likely going to be concrete and heat.  Here's hoping for some cool breezes from Carbonear.

And now it's off to watch the only All-Star Game I will ever see the Mets host. On the tv, that is; the team treated this event as the cash cow that it clearly is, never even offering faraway fans a chance at a lottery for nosebleed seats. But several good friends will be there, and their cameras will do a far better job of telling the story for me than FOX ever will.
