Eleanor wants to go Minimalist Christmas this year, and I can't say I blame her.
There are plenty of reasons for it. The Scarlett Overkill of it all in Retail that begins its creep in August and is in full Ho Ho Ho Buy Buy Buy mode well before Thanksgiving. The bizarre weather that has it 46F right now, 8 a.m. on 15 December, down from a record high yesterday of 71. All the stuff we still have going on inside the house, between the unfinished kitchen and the all-over-the-place cat. Last but not least, all the joys and wonders of stuff going on immediately outside the house, which has now escalated to code enforcement with a random toss of mushy pumpkin thrown in.
So we'll find our Christmas in other ways. I went to my Rochester office party at the end of the day yesterday and will have a similar lunch with the local office next Monday. We have favourite films to return to, including the hard-to-find Comfort and Joy by Bill Forsyth, which I finally tracked down. The kids will be here for the occasion, and it might even snow, once, briefly, before the sleigh gets lost looking for the snowpack.
As for you and yours, if you're going full-on decorating? Good on ya. Just be careful; the live trees, especially, can be safety hazards;)
